Retaining many of the strengths of the original Transporter-based California, the Crafter-based Grand California’s appeal is extended by the addition of extra space, and a wetroom with toilet, shower, a fold-out wash basin, shelves, cupboards and a skylight for ventilation. Two different versions will be available: the ‘680’ – measuring 6.8 metres – and the ‘600’ – measuring 6 metres – which not only has a double bed at the rear but also an overcab bed for children.
Prices for the Grand California start at £68,899 (RRP inc VAT exc OTR) for the 600 and rise to £78,145 for the 680 with 4MOTION four-wheel drive. One engine – a torquey 2.0-litre TDI 177 PS – is available, twinned to a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox.
