Approved Workshop Scheme

Approved Touring Caravan & Motorhome Servicing

The Approved Workshop Scheme is a joint enterprise between the NCC (National Caravan Council), The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club. Originating on the 1st January 1978, and the only scheme to be supported by all of the major UK manufacturers* , AWS is now the UK’s largest group of independently assessed workshops and is seen as the benchmark for motorhome and touring caravan servicing in the UK.

There are currently over 590 fixed and mobile Approved Workshops across the UK. In order to be accepted on to the Scheme, all workshops must pass an annual inspection by a team of independent assessors and must comply with the Scheme’s rigorous standards. So you’ll know that the right things are done, by the right people and to a high standard.

For your peace of mind, always use an Approved Workshop to service your touring caravan or motorhome. To find out more, click here.

Habitation checks help keep you safe, ensure everything is working while you’re away, and identify any signs of water ingress in your vehicle. Keeping a history of these checks can also help maintain — and even increase — the value of your caravan, campervan, or motorhome.

  1. Safety First – Especially with Gas Appliances
A habitation check helps identify any potential safety concerns, particularly with LPG systems and gas-powered appliances like heaters. LPG systems require thorough inspection, as carbon monoxide is a deadly gas. Regular annual checks are essential for ensuring your family’s safety.

  2. Early Detection of Water Ingress Saves Money
Water ingress can be expensive to fix if left unchecked. As part of your annual habitation service, moisture levels in the bodywork are tested to catch any early signs of damp — helping you avoid costly repairs later on.

  3. Trusted, Trained Technicians
We recommend workshops approved by the AWS (Approved Workshop Scheme), where technicians are industry-trained and use fully calibrated, professional-grade equipment for every service.

  4. Protect Your Vehicle’s Value
A full habitation service history adds value to your caravan, campervan, or motorhome when it comes time to sell. Just like with cars, potential buyers often request service records to ensure the vehicle has been properly maintained. It’s also often a requirement for maintaining warranty coverage.
